The worst of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons

Written by Staff Writer

With over 46 hours to go until the 84th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the world’s largest simultaneous stream of ever-expanding balloons is scheduled to make its first appearance on Saturday.

Between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. ET, 16 balloons will make their debut in the Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade, which is viewed by a global audience of over 1 billion people.

As it has done for more than half a century, a Macy’s Parade balloon is insured for over $30 million against personal injury and property damage.

Nine of the balloons in this year’s show are flying on their first trips together, while 11 of the 16 are making their first appearance in the parade after many decades away.

The largest balloons in the parade will be Rainbow Puffin, Hello Kitty, Polar Bear Cub, Hello Kitty Snuggly, Firecracker Kid, Penguin, Knight Rider and Barbies Mini!

Here are some of the worst, or most memorable, record-breaking balloon accidents from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
