Fox News contributor Candace Owens claims Stacey Abrams is corrupt

Fox News contributor Candace Owens tore into Democratic Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams on Thursday, accusing her of being corrupt and unqualified to serve as governor.

Abrams is running to become the nation’s first black female governor in the Nov. 6 midterm elections. But she’s been sued by right-wing groups and by the GOP in state court, after she allegedly cast fraudulent ballots as a former state lawmaker in 2013 and another time for mayor of Atlanta.

Owens referred to a lawsuit Abrams filed last year accusing Donald Trump Jr. of making “hate-filled, misogynistic, and racially motivated posts on social media” against her, saying the complaint was likely part of a “lullaby campaign,” “an allusion to the traditional care [Abrams] took” in court.

Abrams said at the time she was “incredibly saddened” to see Trump Jr.’s words “have such devastating impact on people’s lives.”

“Stacey Abrams suing Donald Trump Jr. for alleging racism in the presidential campaign is not a clue,” Owens said. “This is the portrait of a corrupt candidate who cares more about a night, [instead of] a day, about whether there is a criminal charge in the case she claims is never going to happen.”

Owens called Abrams’ race to become Georgia’s first black governor “a pawn contest,” adding: “She’s suing Donald Trump Jr. in order to make money. She’s suing Donald Trump Jr. to tell anyone what happened at campaign fundraisers.”

Owens said Abrams’ lawsuit stemmed from a dispute with the father of House minority leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., over the role her campaign played in re-electing Rep. David Scott, D-Ga., in 2014. Owens asked Abrams about the lawsuit on air on Thursday.

“My message to Nancy Pelosi today is, welcome to Washington. All of you want to be compared to you. For God’s sake, I mean, I love you dearly, but don’t put these mothers and daughters in danger.”

Abrams has accused Republicans of a “shadow campaign” to undermine her candidacy. A spokesperson for the National Republican Senatorial Committee has said that it was the national party pushing the lawsuit.

Abrams has called Owens’ remarks a “disgusting and racist attack” that “never passes a smell test.”

“My perspective is it is time for people to realize Stacey Abrams does not have the legal backing to fight Donald Trump in court, and that the whole ‘Pelosi bandwagon’ that Candace Owens is touting is based on lies,” she said.
